Don Belisle grew up in the car repair and recycling world. He worked in his father’s salvage yard in his twenties while living in Andover Massachusetts. He had his hand in much of the daily work of the salvage yard. When he wanted to head out on his own, the auto world was where he went. Don owned his own body shop, Pleasant Valley Autobody, in Methuen Massachusetts in the 1980s. A real estate offer he couldn’t refuse came up, and he sold the shop. Don worked as a insurance adjuster for a year after closing shop.

It didn’t take Don long to learn that he wasn’t enjoying being an insurance adjuster. He went up to Maine to do some work at his brother’s salvage yard. Realizing that vehicle recycling was what he wanted to do, Don went out on his own again and started Recore in 1989 with one truck, a 1982 GMC general logging truck. He opened the business in New Hampshire as he had always liked the state and felt life was simpler here.

Recore started buying catalytic converters at the beginning of their use, and dealing with the precious metals in currently Recore’s primary business.  In 2000 Don and Recore went back to buying and selling crushed cars, and in 2009 bought their own crusher. Don is proud to say that everything at Recore is processed right here in Derry, New Hampshire.
